MADURAI: Around 15,000 nurses who are working on consolidated monthly salary of Rs.14,000 in government hospitals in Tamil Nadu have made an appeal for regularizing their services as promised by the State government and immediately increase the monthly salary given to them now.
“There is no time scale….we are now in consolidated pay. Despite completing five years of service in government hospitals- rural areas -PHCs in Tamil Nadu, there is no support for our genuine grievance,” a few nurses said today- on 23rd July 2020. These 15,000 nurses were selected through Tamil Nadu. Most of us are working in long shifts, for 12 hours daily, but the salary given to us is very little compared to that of confirmed staff government nurses. We work in the same ward or department in government hospital but salary wise there is no justice for us,” a few staff nurses of government hospitals in Tamil Nadu told ‘Lotus Times’ news website today.
Appealing to the Tamil Nadu State government to give regularize their service and give them time scale- permanent government staff as promised at the time of recruitment, a nurse said today that it is not justified to give them less pay. “We have been requesting for the past three years……Nurses took out many protests in various districts of Tamil Nadu. We were appointed after scrutiny and merit test by Tamil Nadu Medical Recruitment Board,” the nurse had lamented today- on 23rd July 2020.
The one voice coming from the affected nurses is that salary partiality is not justified when all nurses are doing the same work. “Government of Tamil Nadu gave us a promise to make us permanent nursing staff in government hospitals…….We are waiting for the past five years,” a nurse had expressed her anguish.
