MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has today (4th July 2020) thanked all those persons, political parties and organisations who worked relentlessly for getting Central government clearance to set up the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai.
Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, president, Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association, Madurai, has issued a press statement here today in this regard because the setting up of AIIMS in Madurai was published in the Government of India gazette by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 3rd July 2020.
“Our association has also put in lot of efforts to get AIIMS for Madurai since it will be of great help for people of southern districts.Affiliate bodies of our association and many like-minded persons had worked hard for this,” he added.
Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam has said that a delegation from their association had met former Madurai MP Mr.R.Gopalakrishnan in New Delhi atleast 20 times to pursue the matter of getting AIIMS sanctioned for Madurai. The team from Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association met the then Union Health Minister Mr.J.P.Nadda in New Delhi personally and requested him to choose Madurai for establishing AIIMS and also met the expert team that came to Madurai to visit the site at Thoppur here.
Besides profusely thanking Tamil Nadu Ministers Mr.Sellur K Raju and Mr.R.B.Udayakumar, the association has particularly thanked Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan and Swadeshi Jagran Manch national president Mr.R.Sundaram for their role in taking the people’s request to the attention of leaders in New Delhi and to the Union Ministers.
Mr.Jeyapragasam also thanked the Madurai RSS president Mr.N.Srinivasan for his contribution in this issue.He mentioned about the support given by print and electronic media to disseminate information on ‘AIIMS for Madurai’ movement.
Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi had visited Madurai and laid the foundation stone for Madurai AIIMS on 27th January 2019.
