MADURAI: A youth from Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu who is working in Indian Army is now on a mission of walking 1,000 kms in backward direction to take the Coronavirus control awareness message forward among people. (THIS WALK IS CALLED AS REVERSE PEDESTRIANISM).

Mr.Balamurugan has embarked on this ‘walking backward’ journey from 26th June 2020 to cover all important places in Sivaganga district, with support and encouragement from Vaigai Pattalam and Cholan Book of World Records. He belongs to Rajagambhiram near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district.

“I am walking in a backward direction because it catches public attention. The message to people is that hand wash, sanitizers and face mask are a must. We must fight Corona and eradicate it,” Mr.Balamurugan has said while commencing his fourth day walk on 30th June 2020.

Sivaganga District Collector Mr.Jayakanthan has flagged off his backward walk journey that covers 1,000 kilometres in the district.  He appeals during the walk that people should avoid going out unnecessarily and stay safe at home by taking all precautions and following preventive measures.

The young Indian Army jawan says that his aim is to create a world record in back walking. “Many years ago, an American had covered 12,800 kms in backside walking. I want to cover 13,000 kms,” says Mr.Balamurugan who works in Assam. He is now in his home district of Sivaganga district near Madurai due to Corona lockdown.
