‘Shramik Special’ leaves from Madurai with 1,552 migrants (Video)

MADURAI: ‘Shramik Special’ train from Madurai to Maunath Banjan Junction has left from Madurai Junction railway station at 5.25 pm today -on 18th May 2020. It will reach Maunath Banjan junction (in Uttar Pradesh) at 5.40 pm on 20th May. Totally 1,552 stranded migrants (guest workers), stranded families and students have boarded this train here today.

Proper screening of passengers was ensured before boarding the train and social distancing to be maintained during travel. During the journey, passengers were provided with food packets and water bottles. The district administration and railways ensured orderly departure of the workers, according to a press release from Southern Railway Madurai Division Public Relations Officer.

Dr. T.G.Vinay, Madurai District Collector, Mr.Davidson Devasirvatham, Madurai Police Commissioner, Mr.Karthik, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madurai along with railway officials Mr.Lalit Mansukhani, Additional Divisional Railway Manager – 1, Mr.O.P. Shaw, Additional Divisional Railway Manager – 2, Mr. Prasanna, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Mr. Vivek Sharma, Divisional Mechanical Engineer and Mr. V.J.P. Anbarasu, Divisional Security Commissioner, Southern Railway Madurai division, were present at the railway station here.
