Minister inspects ‘Amma Canteen’ at Madurai GRH

MADURAI: Cooperation Minister Mr.Sellur K.Raju today inspected the ‘Amma Canteen’ at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai and enquired about food being provided there.

On 16th May 2020, the Minister visited GRH and Ramarayar Mandapam area here along with Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay and Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan.

He told reporters that six lakh people were provided food through 12 Amma Canteens in Madurai city during the Corona lockdown period between March 23rd and May 15th.

“The State government took steps to arrange free food to lockdown affected needy people in Madurai. Per day, more than 11,000 people had food in 12 Amma Canteens here. The canteens also provided eggs to nearly 1.5 lakh people in the last one month,” Mr.Sellur Raju informed.

He inspected the residential locality near Ramarayar Mandapam today morning where Zinc tablets, Vitamin C tablets and ‘Kabasura Kudineer’ Siddha herbal concoction were distributed to the residents there. He also enquired about disinfectants fogging.

Among those who were present during the Minister’s visit to GRH include hospital Dean Dr.Sangumani, City Engineer Mr.S.Arasu, ACHO Dr.Vinodh Raja and PRO Mr.Chithravel, according to a press release from Madurai Corporation today.
