I AM OPPOSED TO TOTAL TASMAC CLOSURE: KARTI (Video)

MADURAI: Congress leader and Sivaganga constituency MP Mr.Karti Chidambaram has said today that he is opposed to implementation of total prohibition in Tamil Nadu because it is a failed policy worldwide.

“Complete alcohol free State is not possible and I am personally not for total prohibition because it leads to mafia and other social issues. My opinion is you can have bring down the number of wine shops, regulate them, cut the timings of wine shops and have limited shops for limited hours. But introducing total prohibition is not feasible,” Mr.Karti Chidambaram said today while talking to reporters in Madurai on 11th May 2020. 

The Congress MP has demanded bringing in cashless transactions in TASMAC wine shops to prevent misuse by ruling party. 
“Even in the US and in our Gujarat, total prohibition has failed. Near Gandhiji’s birthplace Porbandar in Gujarat, there is a mafia. One reason for more Corona positive cases is the sudden opening of liquor shops and people making huge crowds. There is complete mismanagement,” he added.  

Mr.Karti Chidambaram had reiterated that he is for regulation of liquor shops, monitoring of TASMAC liquor shops and educating people about ill effects of alcohol. 

“But I am against complete ban. Regulate the number of shops, bring online sales and remove TASMAC shops from temples, worship places and educational institutions etc,” the Congress MP said. 

He distributed free rice, vegetables and grocery items to 300 sanitary workers at K.K.Nagar area in Madurai which was organized by Madurai District Congress Committee and president Mr.Karthikeyan.
