MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister Mr.R.B.Udayakumar has clearly said today that the famous Chithirai festival in Madurai will not be held till the Corona lockdown is lifted. The lockdown will get over only on 3rd May and Madurai district is one among the Corona hotspot districts announced by the Centre.

Speaking to reporters here on 17th April 2020, the Minister said that lockdown guidelines fully banned any religious festival or congregations or large gatherings in public places  to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection. The annual Chithirai festival-Lord Kallalagar ceremonies are scheduled to commence towards the end of this month.

“This is applicable for festivals of all religions. Only after the lockdown is over, we can think about the Chithirai festival……Let us pray to lord Kallalagar to save us from Corona and bless us,” Mr.R.B.Udayakumar has said after visiting Setupati Higher Secondary School where food meant to be distributed to corona warriors and volunteers was prepared.
