MADURAI: Large quantities of food materials from voluntary organizations, activists and various sponsors- donors continued to pour in for distribution to Corona lockdown affected families in Madurai district.
On 14th April 2020, Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay told reporters here that many organizations and donors are supplying grocery items and they are being collected at the Collectorate here.”Till now, we have disttributed essential food items such as groceries and vegetables in packets to 4,800 families in our district. They include senior citizens, destitute, migrant workers, fold artists, Narikuravas, phsycially challenged and transgenders etc,” Dr.Vinay said.
Special teams of nodal officers are monitoring the distribution of food essentials across the districts and thasildhars are supervising. The received grocery items- rice- wheat, refined oil, etc are being neatly packed in bags for distribution to beneficiaries.
Some of the sponsors donors include TVS, Chennai Silks, Lady Doak College, American College, Rice Mills Association etc., he added. From wherever requests are coming for food supplies, the district authorities are despatching them.
