MADURAI: The long Corona lock down has put washermen and those in ironing and laundry in distress. There are thousands of families in Madurai district which are into ‘Salavai’, doing washing of clothes and ironing / laundry for their daily livelihood.
Since lockdown and curfew are strictly being implemented now and extended upto 30th April 2020, those who are in washing, ironing and laundry have appealed to the Tamil Nadu State government to provide disaster relief assistance to their families also.
On 13th April 2020, a group of them led by in-charge Periyakaruppan submitted a representation to Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay and requested him to consider their plea for compensation assistance since there are no daily earnings for them to run their families.
