MADURAI: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry (Independent Charge) Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman has asked the Tamil Nadu government to support the crucial landmark legislation in India’s history – GST Bill- in the Parliament since the issues raised have been addressed have been sorted out by the Central government.
“We want the Tamil Nadu government to support the GST Bill (goods and services tax bill). The differences raised were sorted out and I will tell you today that once the GST comes into vogue, it reduces the taxes through uniformity structure in all States in the country without any variation,” she said.
At the GST Council, the issues raised were addressed and if uniform tax regime along with digital payments go together, it would be immensely beneficial, she added.
Ms.Sitharaman was speaking at the Digi Dhan Mela held in Madurai on March 12 (Sunday) in the presence of Union Minister of State for Shipping and Highways Mr.Pon.Radhakrishnan, Niti Aaayog Director Mr.Sumant Narayan, Tamil Nadu Minister Mr.R.B.Udhayakumar and others.
Earlier, Mr.Udhayakumar has said that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.Edappadi Palaniswamy has called over phone Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi immediately after the BJP’s spectacular victory in the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other States. The election results were declared on March 11.
