MADURAI: Praying to God Almighty to stop the spread of Coronavirus infection and save the people, a special ‘Yagam’ was performed at a very ancient temple in Madurai today – 2nd April 2020.
This special ‘homan’ and ‘yagam’ were performed at Sri Kalyana Sundareswarar Temple situated at Avaniapuram here. This temple is very ancient and was constructed during the Pandya period. Some records say that this Balameenakshi Kalyana Sundareswarar Temple belongs to 6th Century A.D.
Only temple priests and temple staff were present during the ‘yagam’ and devotees / outsiders were not allowed inside the temple premises because of Coronavirus restrictions- Section 144- Total lockdown and social distancing to prevent spread of virus.
Temple Executive Officer Mr.Mariappan offered prayers and presided over this ‘yagam’ aimed to chase away the Coronavirus.
