
MADURAI: In a swift measure to ensure collection of long-pending rent dues, the Madurai Corporation has today- 19th March 2020- sealed 16 shops in the city for not paying rent to the Corporation. These shops are operating from place owned and rented out by Madurai Corporation.
As per the instructions of Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan, the civic body authorities are taking steps to collect the pending rent dues from various shops. In that process,16 shops in Zone-1, Ward 11- Ponnagaram area- have been sealed by the officials.
According to a press release from the Madurai Corporation here today, the rent dues were to the tune of nearly Rs.60 lakhs and hence the 16 shops were sealed for long-pending dues.
“Rent and tax collection is a priority of the corporation and the premises owned by corporation is a priority…….The shops were sealed for not paying rent to the corporation,” a press release from the Madurai Corporation has said today.
Madurai Corporation Assistant Commissioner Mr.Jayaram Raja and several senior officials including Ms.Indira Devi and others were present during this Corporation operation in Madurai.
