MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Government is considering making the marks scored in language subjects also for finalizing the students rank list in examinations because just subject knowledge alone is not enough for students’ employability.
A preliminary meeting was already convened in Chennai and was guided by the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Secretary two days ago and another meeting is scheduled to take place on March 6th 2020. Right now, marks scored in language papers are not taken into consideration for grades and ranks from school level.
“Our Higher Education Secretary is very particular that the reasons for less enrolment for postgraduate-other higher education courses-employability concerns must be addressed. So, language marks was said to be a factor and not just the other subjects. English communication skills etc are said to be important. It was suggested that English communication and language skills also need importance from undergraduate first semester itself to prepare our students, It is not just about English but the importance of language as a whole,” Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan, Madurai Kamaraj University Vice-Chancellor, informed here today- on March 4th 2020.
This preliminary meeting held in Chennai – by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education- and was attended by Madurai Kamaraj University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tamil Nadu Education University and others, including the Registrar of the University of Madras and Regional Joint Directors of Higher Education.
