30-day girl baby killed near Madurai: Female infanticide?

MADURAI: At the International Women’s Day Celebrations organised by the Women’s Studies Centre of Madurai Kamaraj University here on 4th March 2020, the Madurai District Superintendent of Police Mr.N.Manivannan gave a shocking news.

A just 30-day-old girl baby was killed and buried in Usilampatti in Madurai district today and this barbaric incident is being probed by the local police following the orders of the SP due to fears of female infanticide.

“Usilampatti police inspector had called me and informed about this girl baby death today morning……I asked the police to investigate and our police are enquiring….This is a complaint and allegation of female infanticide……This incident reported from Usilampatti today shows that our society is still in the dark days. The investigation report from Usilampatti is awaited and I can give more details on this only after the final report,” the Madurai District SP Mr.N.Manivannan said while addressing a large number of girl students in MKU today.

MKU VIce-Chancellor Dr.M.Krishnan, Mrs.M.Maheswari, Deputy Commissioner (Admin) SGST Madurai and Dr.R.Radhika Devi, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, MKU, were among those present on the dais.
