MADURAI: Tension prevailed in Madurai today- 19th February 2020- as one person attempted suicide by pouring dousing petrol on himself at anti-CAA rally in Madurai demanding that the Citizenship Amendment Act must be repealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi government.
More than 1,000 people from various Muslim organisations wanted to gherao the Madurai district collector’s office here today opposing the CAA. However, police denied permission to the protesters and blocked them near the Gandhi Museum which is very near to the collector’s office here.
The protesters have raised slogans against the BJP government for bringing in the Citizenship Amendment Act and demanded that this controversial CAA should be immediately withdrawn in the interest of Muslims and minorities.
A person who was coming in the rally suddenly poured petrol condemning the CAA. Tension prevailed in that area today afternoon. Another person had collapsed swooned and he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
All roads leading to Madurai Collector’s office were blocked by the police and traffic was totally disrupted.
