MADURAI: Seventy lakh children up to five years of age were administered polio drops through State-wide Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) camps in Tamil Nadu today-19th January 2020.
The Health Department and Directorate of Public Health made elaborateĀ arrangements at all levels to ensure that every child got polio vaccine at immunization booths or in public places.

Cooperation Minister Mr.Sellur K.Raju inaugurated the pulse polio immunisation drive at a camp in Madurai Corporation Urban Primary Health Centre in Sellur here today morning. Madurai North MLA Mr.V.V.Rajan Chellappa, District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay, Corporation Commissioner Mr.Visakan and others were present.
“In Tamil Nadu, 70 lakh children upto five years of age are estimated to get polio drops through 43,000 polio immunization booths. Public places, tourists, bus stands and railway stations are also being covered by health teams. There are mobile booths at toll gates on highways also,” Mr.Sellur Raju told reporters.
Dr.Priya Raj, Deputy Director of Health Services, Madurai district, has said that door-to-door verification will be done so that polio drops will be administered if any child had missed it today. In Madurai district, an estimated 2.85 lakh children have to be covered in this pulse polio drive.
