MADURAI: Union Minister Ms.Smriti Irani today lashed out at the DMK for its stand on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and for speaking against India’s interests by joining hands with the Congress party.
“Today I want to ask a few pertinent questions. Who was in power in 2007 when the granting of Citizenship issue came up. Why the DMK did not leave the UPA government then? Now that party is opposing CAA and giving misleading statements,” she charged while addressing a public meeting organised by the BJP here today 9th January 2020.
MODI AND MAHATMA:
Posing a challenge to the DMK to answer her questions, she marked her speech with ‘Why DMK Why’.
“In 1947, Mahatma Gandhi spoke about the rights of religious minorities in Pakistan and said that it is the responsibility of India to protect the welfare of people belonging to religious minorities in Pakistan. With CAA, our PM Modi had ensured that Gandhiji’s promise was kept. My question to the DMK is when it was OK with Hindus then, why hate Hindus now. The CAA protects Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Christians and Buddhists who feel unsafe in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan,” Ms.Smriti Irani said.
Her English speech was translated into Tamil by BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan. Party leaders and cadres from southern districts have attended the public meeting here today.
