MADURAI: In a very significant move, the Annamalai University at Chidamabaram in Tamil Nadu is making a course on our Indian Constitution compulsory for its students from January 2020. The university, perhaps, will be the first to execute new guidelines of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration of Annamalai University has started this important step of offering Constitution as a compulsory elective course/ paper for students of arts, science, engineering and all other courses offered by the university with immediate effect.
BOARD OF STUDIES:
Today, the Board of Studies has approved the course content and this move was possible with the encouragement of Vice-Chancellor Dr.V.Murugesan, Academic Director Dr.A.Rajasekaran and Dean (Faculty of Arts) Dr.E.Selvarajan. With their keen interest, Head of the Department Dr.C.Subramanian and his faculty went about in introducing Constitution as a compulsory elective course immediately with three weightage points and students will study it according to semester time-table.
The faculty of Department of Political Science and Public Administration including Dr.A.Thanikodi have expressed a view that every citizen should know our fundamental duties and Annamalai University is taking a big leap by introducing a compulsory paper on Constitution.
