MADURAI: For past several decades, the ‘Sozhaga’ community nomadic tribe families, who are struggling for their livelihood in Madurai and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu, are literally begging the State government for ST certificate. Once again the 500 families of this community are making an appeal to authorities and to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for help.
(AUDIO) FOR EDUCATION:
Founder and Managing Trustee of Suyam Charitable Trust in Chennai Dr.V.Uma, who is taking up the plea of ‘Sozhaga’ community with State government officials and political parties spoke to ‘Lotustimes’ news website over phone on 26th November 2019 on this long pending small demand of whipping ‘SAATTAIADI’ families.
“If these 500 families get ST certificate, it will help their children for college education, scholarships etc. Just one certificate from the government will improve their livelihood……We are pursuing this matter for the welfare of ‘Sozhaga’ community people,” she said.
BJP HELP SOUGHT:
The request of ‘Saattai’ families was already taken to the attention of senior BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Mr.La.Ganesan and Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan.
In fact, Mr.La.Ganesan visited the small hamlets where this community people are living in Madurai district. And, in June this year, a representation was given to Dr.Srinivasan elaborating the plight of Sozhaga community and seeking his help.
“Local BJP functionaries spoke to us, but we want the party to take up the issue with State government and district administration…..We are hoping for a solution,” Dr.Uma said. She said that the demand of this community people was placed before Adi Dravidar Welfare officers and RDO.
“The anthropology experts gave a positive report but no action was taken so far…..We are once again appealing to the district collectors of Madurai and Tiruvallur to take quick action and ensure that Shozhaga community gets ST certificate. The plight of ‘SAATTAIADI’ families is very disturbing,” said Dr.Uma.
