CHENNAI: Newly formed Hindu Temple Federation has resolved that its mission of safeguarding Hindu temples and their lands / properties etc will soon be converted into a mass movement in Tamil Nadu.
It had urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that High Court-appointed Special Officer for Idol Wing Mr.A.G.Ponn.Manickavel continues in that capacity because he has been successful in retrieving lost idols of Hindu temples and in conducting investigation of idol theft cases.
MEETING HELD IN CHENNAI:
An important meeting of Hindu Temple Federation was held at Chinmaya Nagar Koyambedu in Chennai yesterday where it had passed some resolutions and placed few demands.
“Mr.Ponn.Manickavel’s tenure as head / special officer of Idol Wing -CID is getting over this month. Our demand is that he should continue. The State government can form a separate Board to handle idol theft investigation and safeguard idols of Hindu temples. Continue him…,” Federation Convenor Mr.V.Sivaji, has demanded.
It was decided at the meeting that protection of Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu, protecting the lands and properties of temples and issues connected to temples will be taken up as a mass movement by the Hindu Temple Federation by involving people at grassroot / village level.
It also demanded that the State Government should withdraw the controversial G.O. 318 issued in the month of August this year allowing distribution of temple lands to encroachers. “What right have they got to distribute temple lands……That G.O. is totally objectionable,” Mr.Sivaji added.
