Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s famous and very ancient 1,300-year-old ‘Kanthalloor Mahadeva Temple’ – Valiyasala, in Thiruvananthapuram, had celebrated the ‘Kanda Sashti 2019’ festival in a grand manner by holding many festive events from October 28th to November 2nd.
Thousands of devotees took part in the ‘Kanda Shasti’ festival programmes invoking the blessings of Lord Muruga.

According to records available, the Kanthalloor Mahadeva Temple in Thiruvananthapuram was built in 7th Century AD and history says that it is connected to the time of Chera, Chola and Pandya kings.
A devotee who is closely associated with this temple told ‘Lotus Times’ news website today that this ancient temple has all the three powerful Gods at one place – the Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara. There are many sub-shrines within this temple and ‘Kanda Sashti’ festival for Lord Muruga is an annual event celebrated here.
“Lord Siva will be in ‘rudhra roopam’ in this temple…..The Murugan shrine in this major ancient temple draws thousands of devotees for ‘Kanda Shashti’ events……The celebrations ended last night (Nov 2nd)…Fire walk is an important event….This ‘Trimurthi’ temple at Valiyasala in Thiruvananthapuram is very ancient and history says that this was an important learning centre and an university existed here more than 1,000 years back,” the devotee said.
