MADURAI: Following the absence and boycott of Vice-Chancellors of State universities at VCs conference which began at Ooty today, Tamil Nadu Governor Mr.R.N.Ravi has said that he is hoping that good sense will prevail in the State.

“I thank the Vice-President of India Mr.Jagdeep Dhankhar for coming to inaugurate the Vice-Chancellors’ conference. There is a purpose and priority for this conference. The objective today is to improve the quality of higher education through deliberation and collaboration. But, the State universities in Tamil Nadu are not participating in this VCs conference because they were threatened by special police not to attend the conference. I hope good sense will prevail. When the Vice-Chancellors were threatened by special branch police to keep away from the conference and there were midnight knocks to the VCs to not attend today’s conference, my advice to them (to the VCs) was to take care of themselves. The Vice-Chancellors’ conference this year is a platform for capacity building to both the faculty and students,” Mr.R.N.Ravi has said in his opening remarks at the inaugural session and added that the annual conference of all university VCs is being organized for the last four years by inviting top persoanlities and experts from various fields.

Vice-President of India Mr.Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated the Vice-Chancellors’ conference at Udhagamandalam (Ooty) in Tamil Nadu today morning- April 25th 2025-and in his inaugural address the Vice-President has said that Vice-Chancellors must act in a manner to protect India’s academic landscape and that the Tamil Nadu Governor is working as per his oath under the Constitution of India to preserve and protect and defend the Constitution.

Governor Mr.R.N.Ravi is organizing the Vice-Chancellors’ conference by inviting the VCs of State, Central and private universities in Tamil Nadu to deliberate higher education issues and promote collaboration among the State universities. However, a majority of State universities are not attending the conference due to issues that are prevailing between the Tamil Nadu government and Raj Bhavan.
