
CHENNAI: It was all smiles and a happy day for over 275 special children who participated in a sports meet conducted for them in Chennai on April 5th 2025 thanks to the efforts of Rotary Club of United Chennai and Rotary Club of Chennai Sneham.
‘Smile 2025′, the second edition of special childrens’ sports meet was organized by these two Rotary clubs at the District Sports Complex, SDAT-Nehru Park in Chennai.
Mr.Santhosh Kumar, president, Rotary Club of United Chennai, has said that the club is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and sports meet for special children was taken up as a flagship project. Certificates and medals were presented to all the participants.
Mr.M.Imthiyas Basha, chairman, informed that experienced physical education teachers and special school coordinators were involved in this sports meet in which over 275 children with special needs from 22 special schools in and around Chennai took part, according to a press release received from Mr.Sreehari Abhilash, additional chairman, Rotary International District 3233 and past president of Rotary Club of United Chennai.
Dr.N.Nandakumar, Past District Governor, RI District 3233 was the guest of honour for the inaugural event while Mr.Ram N.Ramamurthy had flagged off the sports event. Mr.Devendran Damodaran, Rotary District Governor Elect, was invited for the valedictory function, the press release added.

Preetha Mahesh, president, Rotary Club of Chennai Sneham, has said that it was overwhelming to see joy on the faces of children with special needs and one of the parents turned emotional by saying that “My name is Parveen and my daughter’s name is Sana. Today I feel proud to say I am Sana’s mother. Despite her challenges, my daughter Sana loves sports and takes part in State-level sports competitions. Her achievements are on par with regular kids. My appreciation and gratitude to Rotary Club of United Chennai for conducting this special sports meet for the special children.”
