
CHENNAI: A leading heart specialist with roots from Vellore in Tamil Nadu-Dr.Aravind Radhakrishnan- who is well known for his pioneering work in interventional cardiology, has joined the prestigious Mittal Institute at Harvard University in US as an associate to continue his fight against cardiovascular diseases on a global scale.
An official announcement to this effect was made by the Mittal Institute at Harvard University recently stating that Dr.Aravind is globally recognized for his efforts to address the impact of cardiovascular diseases particularly in under served regions such as South Asia and West Africa. He gained substantial experience as doctoral student at Charite University in Germany and also received several awards and fellowships in this field.
Dr.Aravind Radhakrishnan’s role in heartcare at global level assumes local significance here because he hails from Vellore in Tamil Nadu. Before moving to Germany, he worked for three years at Scudder Memorial Hospital in Ranipet and at Karigiri Mission Hospital in Vellore and that experience in Medicine Department at Vellore had laid the foundation for his global health initiatives, he said while heartily sharing his Harvard happiness to ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai on March 17th 2025. He studied at Vani Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Gandhi Nagar in Vellore.
“Dr.Aravind’s influence extends far beyond academic research. He has played an instrumental role in shaping healthcare policies in many regions especially in Liberia where he founded the Liberia Cardiac Society and currently serves as its president. His work has helped to develop national strategies to improve cardiac care in West Africa and establish thrombolysis and chest pain units across Liberia counties. By leveraging the data from a cohort of 8,000 PCI patients in India, he is driving healthcare innovations that could significantly reduce premature CVD-related deaths, and his appraoch integrates mobile healthcare, tele-medicine and strategic infrastructure that presents a scalable model to revolutionize cardiac care in low-resource settings worldwide,” the information bulletin has said as he joined the Mittal Institute at Harvard University.
