MADURAI: One of the very renowned higher education institutions in Tamil Nadu- The American College- in Madurai has landed in a deep financial crisis now and it is unable to pay monthly salary to its teaching and non-teaching staff for this month as on February 12th 2025.
College sources said today that about 500 teaching faculty who are working in Self-Financing courses departments of American College in Madurai have not yet received their monthly salary till now- February 12th 2025- and they expressed anguish that this is the first time in the history of American College that monthly salary could not be disbursed to staff.
“Everybody in our college knows it. The salary for SF staff is still outstanding and not yet paid till today. The American College is in financial crisis and the Self-Financing staff are worried because they they have to pay their house rent etc. Our college in a deep trouble now and SF staff has to be given their monthly salary of atleast Rs.20,000 minimum in our college departments offering SF courses. The college has no funds to pay SF staff salaries,” a senior faculty member of American College told ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai today- February 12th 2025.
The employees are now asking the college Bursar who is the financial head of the college because this is the first time that American College is facing a situation like today and it is resembling a crisis that is faced by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).
Sources said that the American College employees are going to raise several questions and take up protests in public against the financial mismanagement in a prestigious NIRF top ranked college by the American College Principal and Secretary Dr.M.Davamani Christober, Vice-Principal Mr.Martin David and Mr.John Adaikalaswamy besides the present college Bursar as on February 12th 2025.
