MADURAI: The famous jasmine flowers of Madurai which are well known as ‘Madurai Malli’ are now available at the Madurai railway station and similarly the popular ‘Dindigul Locks’ known as Dindigul ‘poottu’ can be purchased at Dindigul railway station.
This initiative was taken under the One Station One Product (OSOP) scheme introduced by the Indian Railways to promote local products at railway stations and connect the artisans with passengers travelling by trains.
“Madurai and Dindigul railway stations now feature OSOP trolleys showcasing our region’s iconic items. In that process, passengers can buy ‘Madurai Malli’ jasmine flowers at Madurai railway station. Everyone knows that the Madurai jasmine is celebrated for its enchanting fragrance and freshness and ‘Madurai Malli’ is the pride of this region’s floriculture. Similarly, the Dindigul station highlights the famous ‘Dindigul Locks’ known for superior durability and legacy in metalwork,” a press release received from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here has informed on December 16th 2024.
Under the OSOP scheme, already 44 stalls have been set up across 35 railway stations in Madurai Division and an innovative initiative of introducing mobile trolleys was taken up by the division, and this trolleys offer the Madurai Malli growers to get easy access to passengers to sell their products.
