MADURAI: On a trial basis, the Madurai Division of Southern Railway introduced covered blankets in the first AC coach of Madurai-Chennai Egmore Pandian Express from December 10th 2024, as a first of its kind initiative by the Southern Railway to enhance hygiene and passenger comfort, a press release received from the railway here today evening has informed.
Under this plan, blankets come with a washable linen cover that is cleaned after each use, the covers are secured with Velcro to keep the blankets in place. “Boot laundries handle the washing and repacking of the blankets with their covers. This ensures that passengers receive fresh and clean blankets for every journey maintaining proper journey,” the press release said and added that passengers responded positively on the first day of its introduction to this new initiative by the Southern Railway Madurai Division in Pandian Express.
