‘English poetry from Bihar’ book released in Delhi; Poetic contributions of Bihar authors to literature highlighted

MADURAI: A book titled ‘English Poetry from Bihar’ featuring a selection of poems by prominent authors from Bihar was released at function held in Press Club of India in New Delhi on Sunday, December 1st 2024.

The book launch ceremony was held under the aegis of British Lingua, an institute of international repute for English communication skills and was convened by Prof.Indibar Mukherjee who retired from Patna University in Bihar.

“This book is the first ever anthology of prominent authors from the pious land of Bihar. It features poems from late Prof.Gurudas Mukherjee of Patna University to Denmark-based Prof.Tabish Khair. The literary work was given the shape of a book by Prof.Ram Bhagwan Singh who is based in Patna and retired from Ranchi University,” according to a press release received yesterday.

Former IPS officer and founder of NGO ‘Prayas’ Amod Kanth who was the chief guest for book release event has said that the collection of poems is pretty intriguing especially those by Prof.Gurudas Mukherjee who was not only a poet and author but also a remarkable teacher who left an indelible mark on English literature and the standardization of English teaching.

Mr.Sudhanshu Ranjan, former Additional Director General of Doordarshan and Aakashvani and noted author cum social entrepreneur Dr.Birbal Jha spoke about poetic skills. “Composing a poem entails writing anything using rhyme and rhythm with carefully chosen words to have an aesthetic, emotional and lasting impact on others, coming from the power of imagination…it arouses and awakens,” Dr.Birbal Jha has said in his felicitations.

Prof.RK Dhawan, former English professor, University of Delhi, medical practitioner Dr.Usha Dhawan and Delhi University associate professor Dr.Prerana Sinha were among those who spoke and appreciated the initiative while Prof.Indibar Mukherjee who proposed a vote of thanks has said that every scholar is an institution in himself or herself.

Among those who recorded the greatness of Bihar’s English poetry include IFS Abhay K, Dr.Prashant Sinha, Mukesh Singhal, Bhola Jha, Rajpal Gangwar, Umanath Singh from Prasar Bharti, Pramod Kumar Jha from NSDC and journalist Vishwanath Jha, the press release added.
