MADURAI: Lok Sabha MP of Virudhunagar constituency Mr.B.Manickam Tagore had requested the Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr.Ram Mohan Naidu to enhance air connectivity of Madurai airport, introduce flights to new destinations and also increase the frequency of running domestic flights.
He gave a representation to the Union Minister in New Delhi on November 28th 2024 with specific requirements of Madurai airport and said that improved air connectivity to Madurai will not only benefit the local community but will also support India’s broader goals of promoting cultural tourism and heritage.
“Even though lakhs of tourists visit Madurai annually attracted by world renowned Meenakshi Amman Temple, the current air connectivity to Madurai is limited. We want 24X7 flight operations due to increasing demand for air travel to and from Madurai because it will be convenient for tourists and business purposes. Also, I request you to increase the frequency of running domestic flights already operational from Madurai to key domestic destinations such as Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore,” the MP has said.
INTRODUCE NEW DOMESTIC DESTINATIONS:
Mr.Manickam Tagore also urged the Union Minister of Civil Aviation to take steps for introducing direct flights to new domestic destinations such as Mumbai, Tirupati and Kolkata because these places are critical for both business and tourism.
His another request is to increase the frequency of flights to international destinations such as Kuala Lumpur (KL), Singapore, UAE and Saudi Arabia since these countries have significant diaspora and improving air connectivity will foster more business, trade and tourism.
