On November 20th 2024, a very concrete assurance was given by the the Tamil Nadu Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Mr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiagarajan and local MLA who had done a thorough inspection of the areas surrounding the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai along with Madurai Mayor Mrs.Indrani Pon Vasanth, Madurai Corporation Commissioner and top officials from various department to figure out the specific problems of the 4 Chithirai streets around the Meenakshi Temple and know what is the actual needs for underground drainage, sanitation, roads, vehicle parking issues etc.
“Lakhs and lakhs of devotees visit our Meenakshi Temple in Madurai every year. Our DMK government is taking lot of steps to improve the civic amenities in the temple area. Our focus is to provide more free toilets outside the Meenakshi Temple and in the areas surrounding it. The DMK government of our Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin is always working for pilgrims’ convenience in and at temples. So, free bathroom-toilets will be our attention at Meenakshi Temple in Madurai…After taking the ideas of Madurai Corporation Commissioner and inputs of Madurai Mayor, steps will be taken quickly to correct the mistakes made in the original plan of Madurai Smart City scheme by the previous government. The Madurai Corporation will improve the civic amenities and civic infrastructure facilities needed around the Madurai Meenakshi Temple area….for the Chithirai streets and after taking the temple approval, we want to go for gober gas plant..parking facilities, traffic regulation, remove encroachments etc,” the Tamil Nadu Minister Mr.PTR told reporters in Madurai on November 20th 2024 after a detailed review.
