MADURAI: If the general talk among the people at tea stalls, roadside shops, eateries and in public places is an indication to know the public pulse, then the picture is clear as on today (November 18th 2024) that film actor Vijay’s new party TVK may garner about 4 per cent votes in the coming assembly elections.

The actor had addressed a mammoth political rally at Vikravandi near Villupuram in Tamil Nadu on October 27th 2024 which was attended by lakhs of people and more importantly there was huge turnout of youth and his young fans for the party’s first State-level political conference.

A general observation from the public mood and casual interactions in the last three weeks indicate that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) may end up with 4 per cent votes if the assembly elections were held today and the momentum is yet to pick up at the grassroot level. for this new party.

This brief write-up is only based on feedback and close observation on the streets of Madurai from the date of TVK conference held at Vikravandi. In fact, it appears that the Dravidian stock is still intact for both the top two parties- DMK and the AIADMK, and the street talk is that actor Vijay will not be able to take on these two parties by projecting himself as an alternative in the 2026 assembly elections.

If political alliances and new combinations take shape, then things will be different. But as on date, the opinion among the people and inferences drawn from the public talk in the last three weeks is that Vijay’s party will get 4 per cent votes if it goes alone in all the constituencies, and hence Vijay may not be a big factor immediately in Tamil Nadu politics in the coming assembly elections if he goes alone.
