MADURAI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) had arrested three JCB operators just recently for damaging railway signal and telecommunications cables while performing contract work for local bodies near the railway lines that took place in areas around Tiruchi, Dindigul and Tirupparankundram in October 2024.
This was informed through a press release received today from the Southern Railway’s Madurai Division here today- on November 1st 2024- informing about the damage done by workers, and how workers engaged in panchayat drainage work near Dindigul were fined for similar disturbances to railway signal cables at the railway boundary during excavation.
“There are certain railway guidelines for tracks and how information must be passed to railway and telecom staff about railway signal cables in their respective areas. Under Section 154 of the Railway Act. damaging the railway cables is a serious offence….All the contractors, JCB operators, and workers who are on the work near railway boundaries must inform the local railway officials before hand and in advance…so that the local bodies can alert the local people about cable damage and delays in train services etc,” the press release received from Madurai Division of Southern Railway had informed here today- November 1st 2024.
