ISRO Chairman receives Ph.D from IIT Madras at its 61st convocation in Chennai (Part-1)

MADURAI: S.Somanath, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), received his Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras at the 61st convocation of IIT Madras held in Chennai today- on July 19th 2024.

A total of 444 Ph.Ds were awarded at today’s convocation of IIT Madras including Ph.Ds, joint degree Ph.Ds with foreign institutions and dual degree Ph.Ds, according to an official press release received from IIT-Madras after the convocation ceremony on July 19th 2024. At the convocation held in the IIT campus in Chennai, as many as 3,016 degrees including joint and dual degrees were awarded to the students ( a total of 2,636 students graduated) besides the Ph.Ds.

Dr.Brian K.Kobilka, who got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2012, was the chief guest for today’s convocation of IIT Madras while Dr.Pawan Goenka, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Madras, had presided over the convocation ceremony in the presence of IIT Madras Director Prof.V.Kamakoti and faculty, staff and students, the press release said.
