MADURAI: The running room which is situated near Railway school next to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) office in Madurai is a boon to the train crew members thanks to the facilities and convenience provided in this rest space.
Railway officials had organized a press visit on July 14th 2024 to this new running room at Madurai Railway Junction which is meant to enhance the rest quality for train crew.
“Named as ‘The Rail Tree-Train Crew Nest’, the state-of-the-art running room is a new facility deigned to provide superior rest facilities for train crew members and it was opened by Southern Railway General Manager Mr.R.N.Singh during his visit to Madurai in February 2024, a press release from Southern Railway’s Madurai Division has informed here today.
“This running room has been entirely revamped to give better service to train crew members including loco pilots, assistant loco pilots and train managers who use this running room rest facility after their scheduled working hours away from their home depot. This rest room is named as ‘The Rail Tree-Train Crew Nest’ which was built in 977 sq mts area on the ground floor and 740 sq meters on first floor. It includes 40 individual AC rooms, separate accommodation for lady train crew and specific rooms for loco inspectors. Totally, the new running room can accommodate 48 persons simultaneously,” the railway press release has informed in Madurai today.
WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES IN RAILWAY RUNNING ROOM?
Each room has essential amenities such as table, chair, reading lamp, dressing mirror and luggage table besides the additional facilities in the nest such as kitchen, dining room, recreation area and a yoga room. The room allotment is managed through software-equipped Running Room Management System with facilities monitored through CCTV system.
The running room also offers meals at 90 per cent subsidy catering to vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences, it has a dedicated caretaker service available round-the-clock to help the crew including waking them up an hour before their departure to ensure timely reporting for duty.
The running room ‘The Rail Tree-Train Crew Nest’ in Madurai is operational under a detailed contract where caretaker assistance and bed linen maintenance are available 24 hours.
“A QR code based feedback system is there for continuous improvement with daily monitoring and regular reviews conducted by supervisory and officer-level staff including Assistant Divisional Electrical Engineer (Operations) and Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Operations). This monitoring helps to sustain high quality service at the Running Room for train crew rest in Madurai,” the railway press release has said.
