MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association had sent its important demands from Madurai to Union Finance Minister Mrs.Nirmala Sitharaman and top level officials in Central and State governments ahead of important 53rd GST Council meeting to take place in New Delhi on June 22nd 2024.

A detailed representation on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Food Grains Merchants Association had highlighted the demands of trade and industry from GST perspective.

“When the GST was introduced, the then Union Finance Minister late Arun Jaitley had said that when the GST revenue reaches One Lakh Crores in India, tax reductions and tax reliefs will be announced. But, now the revenue crossed more than 1.75 lakh crores……tax evasion is high due to non-regularization of tax on many products. For the growth of trade and industry, we are suggesting some tax reductions and tax reliefs in GST which should be placed in the coming GST Council Meeting for tax exemption and tax reductions,” the press release on June 17th 2024 had pointed out.

This important appeal press statement was sent to all important officials in Central and State governments from Madurai and the request on behalf of trade and industry came from Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association president Mr.S.V.S.S.Velshankar, honorary secretary Mr. S.Sai Subramaniam and honorary advisor Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam.

The association also raised its concern about tax notices with penalty given to the stakeholders which had put the business and lives at stake.
