MADURAI: The formation of Convener’s Committee for Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here to run the day-to-day routine administration of the varsity is an intense subject of talk now because the university staff are very clear that there should be a strong varsity voice in the CC that is going to run daily affairs of the university till a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed as Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar had resigned and got relieved two weeks back.
“We all know that Tamil Nadu Higher Education Secretary will be the Convener of Syndicate-member committee of MKU that will manage our varsity for coming many weeks. But, there should be one Governor nominee, and one MKU professor and if possible another professor of MKU to be a member in this Convener’s Committee. Only a representative of MKU who is a professor and a Syndicate member can represent our university’s needs till the new VC is appointed. Our appeal to the Tamil Nadu Governor is to approve a Convener’s Committee that has our university representation from Professor category with two professors,” a senior faculty member of MKU told ‘Lotus Times’ media here today- on May 25th 2024.
A few MKU employees have aired their strong opinion that associations in MKU who are representing teaching and non-teaching staff issues must also support to this request that the Convener’s Committee should have a good voice for MKU professors (Syndicate members) locally even though it will be supervised by monitoring IAS officers (Higher Education Secretary/ Law Secretary etc).
“The names as per seniority who are eligible to be in the MKU Convener’s Committee 2024 are Dr.B.Mayilvaganan, Dr.Dharmaraj and Dr.Kannan (Env). The CC members should be from Professor category only and not from associate professor level who are trying to stake a claim. Seniority in MKU must be the yardstick to be in CC committee, and not their affiliations or whether they are elected members,” a senior faculty of MKU said today- on May 25th 2024.
