Anna University’s video documentary on rare ‘Kachaikatty’ black sheep of Madurai district is coming soon

MADURAI: The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) of Anna University in Chennai is currently preparing a video documentary through its media production unit about the famous ‘KACHAIKATTY’ black sheep which is a native indigenous sheep breed of Madurai district and had found a place in the native sheep breeds of India after a lot of efforts.

‘Kachaikatty’ black sheep is a native variety in Vadipatti area in Madurai district and the NBAGR (National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources) at Karnal in Haryana had registered it as a breed and included it in the official register of sheep vareities in the country a few years ago.

“Anna University is producing a video documentary on Katchaikatti sheep of Madurai distirct and about Bargur cattle in Tamil Nadu. A team from Anna University’s EMRC had visited Madurai district for this work last month and they took a complete video shooting of the ‘Kachaikatty’ sheep which is in endangered animals list. The video post-production work is going on now and the video documentary will be released in another one month,” Dr.S.Arulchelvan, Director of EMRC, Anna University-Chennai, had informed ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai over phone today- on May 3rd 2024.

This video documentary was done by the Anna University’s EMRC team in association with voluntary organization SEVA in Madurai which is working on various agriculture and environment protection issues through its founder P.Vivekanandan.
