MADURAI: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has sent a strongly worded letter to the MKU College in Madurai a few days back asking it pay the pending PF – Provident Fund -dues amount immediately or else it will be freeze the PF account of the college, reliable sources in the Madurai Kamaraj University have said today.
According to officials sources in the varsity, the MKU College has to pay Rs.2.10 crores as pending dues to the EPFO in Madurai and hence it had received a notice from the PF office here last week.
“This issue was taken to the urgent attention of MKU top authorities by the college principal in-charge Dr.M.Buvaneswaran last Saturday (April 27th 2024). The response from MKU top bosses was not encouraging, and no quick action to settle the PF dues. The Registrar of MKU did not respond properly and had not accepted for immediate payment of pending PF dues. Instead he said that the MKU College PF dues matter should be placed in the Syndicate meeting of the university. The Vice-Chancellor, however, had accepted the college request to pay the PF amount quickly,” sources in the university told ‘Lotus Times’ media on April 29th 2024.
Feeling lot of pressure in this matter, the Principal in-charge of MKU College Dr.M.Buvaneswaran had submitted a letter to the VC office, Registrar office and Dean (College Development Council) requesting them to relieve him from the post of Principal with immediate effect by stating that he wants to focus on academic activities.
The MKU College in Madurai Alagarkoil Road was started in the year 1994 and has a huge number of students joining every academic year. According to MKU official sources, the MKU College has 24 permanent staff and nine pensioners, there are 110 guest lecturers working on consolidated salary, and 25 staff working on hourly basis besides 40 CPCLR-CLRs.
(Sources said that the college is having required amount to pay the PF dues immediately but it needs the university clearance).
“For the ego of top officials of MKU, this college had become a hunting ground and they want us to fulfill their whims and fancies. There is a lot of pressure from various quarters, the association pressure is there and somehow the MKU College has been able to generate revenue through its courses, fees and student strength. But, the pressure is becoming severe as the expected cooperation is not there from the university,” a reliable source in MKU College in Madurai has said.
Immediately after the news came out that MKU College Principal in-charge Dr.M.Buvaneswaran had decided to step down from the post, a large number of guest lecturers, staff and students had staged a protest in the college campus on April 29th 2024 demanding action against those who are black-mailing the college Principal.
