MADURAI: An appeal has been made today- on April 9th 2024- to the Southern Railway to operate Kanniyakumari- Ayodhya train via Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Kumbakonam route and not in the proposed Kerala route operation tourism circuit via Trivandrum and Ernakulam.
“We vehemently oppose any proposal to operate the Kanniyakumari-Ayodhya route via Trivandrum, Ernakulam and Palghat. Such a circuit route would inconvenience the passengers but also deviate significantly the devout pilgrims of Tamil Nadu,” Mr.P.Edward Jeni, secretary, Kanyakumari District Railway Users’ Association (KDRUA), has appealed to the Southern Railway authorities through a press release and appeal on April 9th 2024.
“We are aware that Tamil Nadu is home of 40,000 Hindu temples. But there is is a pressing concern, there is no direct train service from our region to Ayodhya Ram temple. We welcome the train connectivity plans…. and we urge the Railway officials for a direct train service from Kanyakumari via Tirunelveli and Madurai, connecting to Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Chennai. This route will align temples and pilgrims, promote tourism and pilgrimage from South India to North India,” the appeal letter to the Southern Railway here has informed on April 10th 2024.
