MADURAI: The financially starved Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai is getting a shocking piece of information that a private lobby is working in the distance education wing of the varsity campus here to benefit private study centres and a complaint to the Tamil Nadu State Government is being made now that action should be taken against the private coterie that is working in the DDE premises doing huge loss to university’s revenue from admissions to examinations.

“MKU revenue from our distance education wing is getting diverted to private study centres in the name of Learner Support Centres. How can private study centres be given permission within the few kilometers jurisdiction of our MKU? We are suspecting a huge malpractice in the Directorate of Distance Education of Madurai Kamaraj University right now…..because already there is a jurisdiction limit for our Directorate of Distance Education to offer its courses in just four districts of Tamil Nadu and how can private study centres be allowed?,” sources said.

“A per centage 65-35 has to be shared to the distance education study centres of MKU by our university. But why study centres are given in our own university jurisdiction and that too in Madurai? This has to be probed completely. The MKU is losing about Rs.9 crores because of this per centage given to private study centres and an alert is coming to the State Government to do a full investigation into how the MKU Directorate of Distance Education is giving permission for study centres, on what basis private centres were allocated and is there some retired staff doing a nexus,” questions were asked by MKU staff on March 9th 2024 demanding a full-fledged enquiry by the government.
