MADURAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted human trafficking networks operating from various cities in the country targeting gullible youth on the promise of lucrative jobs abroad.
Simultaneous searches at 13 locations in Delhi, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Ambala, Chandigarh, Madurai and Chennai are underway, according to sources. So far, Rs.50 lakhs cash, incriminating documents, laptops and CCTV footage have been seized.
A few suspects have been detained and so far around 35 instances of victims sent abroad have been established. Investigation is going on and an appeal has been made to the general public not to fall prey for such false promises of jobs offered by dubious recruitment agencies and agents.
A case of human trafficking has been registered on March 6th 2024 against private visa consultancy firms and others who were found engaged in human trafficking of Indian nationals to Russia under the guise of better employment and high paying jobs.
The identity of victims is being established and a thorough investigation is continuing, according to a government press release issued on March 7th 2024.
