MADURAI: A special Pulse Polio Immunization drive will be conducted on March 3rd 2024 to administer additional dose of oral polio vaccine to children up to five years of age.
The Health Department, district administration and corporation are making arrangements for holding polio vaccination camps at various places even as India has been declared as polio-free country.
To continue that polio-free status, the government is conducting pulse polio camps on March 3rd at Government hospitals, Primary Health Centres, noon meal centres, railway stations, bus stands, airport etc from 7 am to 5 pm. covering all public places.
In Madurai district, this special polio immunization drive will cover 2,64,839 children from 0-5 years of age and steps are being taken to ensure that no child is left out. There will be focus at Sri Lankan refeugee rehabilitation camps, nomadic groups and others so that the oral polio vaccine is given to all children in those places through mobile units.
A press release received from Madurai District Collector M.S.Sangeetha and the City Health Officer has informed today that 6,154 workforce will be involved for conducing the pulse polio vaccination drive in Madurai district.
The District Collector has appealed to the parents and public to take their children up to six years of age to the polio camps for getting additional dose even if the polio vaccination was done already.
