Malaysia invites Madurai businessmen for investments; Consul General explains trade potential

MADURAI: The Consul General of Malaysian Consulate in Chennai Mr.Saravana Kumar Kumaravasagam has invited businessmen from Madurai and southern districts of Tamil Nadu to explore the huge trade opportunities available in Malaysia especially in oil palm industry.

“Malaysia in in the centre of ASEAN region. There is a plenty of scope to do business in Malaysia, and businessmen, entrepreneurs and trade chambers can try for new openings in their interested fields. One of the sectors is oil palm industry in Malaysia that is going for mechanization. Over the years, Malaysia-India bilateral trade has improved significantly,” he said here yesterday.

The Consul General was speaking at an interaction meeting on ‘Doing Business in Malaysia’, organized by the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Madurai on February 16th 2024. He spoke to the traders and businessmen here on specific points of “Choose Malaysia and Malaysia Your Trading Partner’ by giving an overview of the business scope available there.

Giving a few figures, Mr.Saravana Kumar Kumaravasagam said that India and Malaysia has good bilateral trade ties and India is a star performer in Malaysia’s trade ecosystem. “India was Malaysia’s 12th largest trading partner, 11th largest export destination ans 12th largest import source. The business chambers like TN Chamber in Madurai can create a larger awareness of the trade potential in Malaysia which has a population of 34 million,” he added.

The exports from Malaysia to India was 9.98 billion US dollars while imports from India was 6.54 billion US dollars. So, Malaysia is doing more exports to India right now and I suggest the businessmen from Madurai region to explore the scope for their products, he said.

TRADE DELEGATION VISITED MALAYSIA:

Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce president Dr.N.Jegatheesan has said in his opening remarks that a 70-member trade delegation from the TN Chamber had visited Malaysia recently where they got a good exposure to the trade openings.

TN Chamber secretary Mr.S.Sridhar, treasurer Mr.A.Sundaralingam and senior members including D.S.Jeeier Babu, ‘Pharma’ Ganesan and former president Mr.V.Neethi Mohan were among those present in this interaction meeting where the Consul General answered to specific questions and suggestions by saying that Trade Office of Malaysian Consulate will be ready to assist for any situation.
