MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu All Government Colleges UGC Qualified Guest Lecturers Association has once again appealed today to the State Government and Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to give 50 per cent internal reservation to already working qualified lecturers who are working as ‘guest lecturers’ getting a meagre monthly salary.
“The State government has announced that 4,000 assistant professor posts in Government arts and science colleges will be filled since recruitment was not done for last nine years. We are requesting the Chief Minister to announce 50 per cent internal reservation for UGC qualified guest lecturers who are working presently. As per G.O. of the Higher Education Department, it was already said that the service of guest lecturers working in government arts and science colleges will be made permanent. The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court already gave an order, but still the higher education department of Tamil Nadu government is yet to implement it. The guest lecturers are working for wages of Rs.25,000 per month right now,” the association has said in its appeal on February 15th 2024.
The writ petition filed in the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court in March 2023 pleading for regularizing the service of those working as guest lecturers was cited by the association in its fresh appeal to the Chief Minister because “the High Court Madurai Bench in its order on March 24th 2023 had directed the Higher Education Department, Director of Collegiate Education and TRB to consider the claim of the petitioners in the light of G.O.Ms.No.56 and pass orders in accordance to law within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this court order.”
Now, the association is looking at various options for getting the court order implemented and the first step was to again request the Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to take care of the guest lecturers working in government colleges.
