MADURAI: Everyone knows that growing more trees will bring good rains. But, a school in Madurai has planted seed for a new teaching-learning concept to show that trees can bring good marks also for students. Yes, that model is called as ‘Curriculum Trees’ where subjects are explained through trees and plants.

This green idea of making it easy for students through model curriculum trees was tried at Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School in K.Pudur in Madurai where students from 6th to 12th standard and the subjects teachers together simplified the subject-related concepts.

“We have made a mind map and conceptual picture of model trees which were displayed in our school campus for the benefit of students. Trees can make students score high marks also,” Headmaster Mr.Sheik Nabi has said on February 9th 2024 while explaining this novel concept of ‘curriculum trees’ along with Assistant Headmasters Mr.Jakir Hussain and Mr.Rahmatullah and subject teachers of various classes who were involved in this work.

Curriculum trees were made as learning model for subjects including Tamil, English, Arabic, science, mathematics, accountancy and social science.

For Tamil subject, the tree will depict Tamil months, Tamil ancient heritage, Tamil alphabets, Sanga literature etc while the Arabic subject tree will explain phonetic method and pronunciation so that students can can learn Arabic language easily.

In English, basic grammar-tenses, sentence patterns, abbreviations etc were done in tree format so that students can easily understand the basics by seeing the tree. For science subject, model images were displayed along with equations, cell structure of plants and animals, plant photosynthesis among other things.

The same novel method of curriculum tree was done for mathematics and accountancy besides explaining world map, Constitution and democratic system.

“These model curriculum trees were displayed especially for the students who are going to write the government public exams in a few days from now and our idea will be very useful for slow learning students so that concepts in each subject are explained in a simple way,” the school Headmaster Mr.Sheik Nabi said yesterday and congratulated the AHMs Mr.Jakir Hussain and Mr.Rahmatullah, and all the teachers for their efforts.
