MADURAI: Hundreds of people had today participated in a mass movement that is building up in Madurai to save the famous Railway Ground in Arasaradi here and to save the land that belongs to railways from being taken away for private purposes and given to private parties.
On January 28th 2024, Madurai MP Mr.Su.Venkatesan had flagged off the public awareness movement that was held from 6.30 am in Madurai city with a call saying that this is not a marathon, but a movement to save Madurai.
The awareness rally and marathon began from U.C.School ground and it was flagged off by Madurai MP Mr.Su.Venkatesan in the presence of ‘Save Railway Colony Land’ committee office-bearers and the common people who are supporting this movement.
This awareness marathon to save the Madurai railway ground and railway land started at U.C.School and went through Arasaradi Main Road, Periyar Bus Stand, Madurai Railway Junction, Sethupathi School road, Madura Coats bridge , Karimedu New Jail Road and concluded at Railway Ground.
Among those who participated in this save railway ground marathon movement include Madurai North MLA Mr.Thalapathi, Tamil Nadu Olympic Association senior vice-president Mr.Solai M.Raja and athletics association president of Madurai district Mr.G.Gopalakrishnan, along with various associations, unions and youngsters.
