This financial crisis situation was explained to the senior level officials of Tamil Nadu State Government in the last two days at meetings held in Chennai on December 27th and 28th 2023, where the MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar and Registrar in-charge Prof.Ramakrishnan had briefed about the pathetic financial position of MKU.

According to sources in Chennai, the MKU bank account at SBI branch in Nagamalai Pudukottai here has only Rs.76 lakhs as on December 30th 2023. The university staff and pensioners have not received their November 2023 month salary yet, even as the new year 2024 is coming in. The December month salary is now coming.

“The daily expenses of MKU is there for us for which we struggle. In SBI Branch of our university, there is only Rs.76 lakhs. Our university authorities had given the complete picture of MKU about its financial position. The November 2023 month salary and pension is pending, now December adds to that. So, the immediate fund needed for us is Rs.24 crores because January has come. There is a positive indication from the State government and we were told that the MKU staff will have good news in the next three or four days because the government treasury is now closed due to holiday,” reliable sources in university told ‘Lotus Times’ media from Chennai and Madurai.
