MKU convocation: Chief guest puts focus on two areas-women empowerment and energy sector

MADURAI: The 55th annual convocation of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) was held here today- on November 2nd 2023- with the chief guest stating in his speech that two national requirements require more focus- women empowerment and energy sector, as India is marching ahead on a fast development track with clearly set targets in various fields for 2047.

Dr.U.Kamatchi Mudali, Vice-Chancellor, Homi Bhabha National Institute (a deemed to be university affiliated to Department of Atomic Energy DAE-Mumbai, who was the chief guest for today’s convocation of MKU, has said in his convocation address that women empowerment and energy sector are two important areas that need great attention as Mother India goes ahead with good pace of growth.

“In this Amrit Kaal period when we celebrate 75 years of independence, the Government of India has set important targets till the year 2047 when our celebrate 100 years of Independence. Tamil Nadu is doing very well in terms of women education, gross enrolment of girls in higher education etc. We need to improve the social, economic and political status of women across country. The Gross Enrolment Ratio of women in higher education has crossed 50 per cent which is much more than the national figure of 22 per cent. The financial support being given to girl students by Tamil Nadu government to for higher education is a very good thing,” the chief guest said in his convocation address.

Tamil Nadu Governor and Chancellor Mr.R.N.Ravi had presided over the convocation while MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar, had presented the annual report for 2022-23 by highlighting the various achievements of faculty and students during the year.

Prof.M.Ramakrishnan, Registrar in-charge of MKU, Syndicate members, faculty and varsity staff were among those present at the 55th annual convocation held in MKU campus here today.
