MADURAI: The teaching and non-teaching staff of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) have not yet received their salary for the month of September thereby creating anxiety among teaching and non-teaching staff about the precarious financial position of the university.
On 3rd October 2023, the members of Joint Action Council (JAC)-MKU had met the Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar in his chamber urging him to take up the matter with State Government and Higher Education officials immediately. The pensioners too have not received their pension for the month of September.
The JAC team that met the Vice-Chancellor today morning include Madurai Kamaraj University Faculty Association (MUFA) president Prof.A.Velanganni Jospeh and secretary Prof.S.Pushparaj, MKU Administrative Staff Association president Mr.Murugan and secretary Mr.Sundaramoorthy, and from other associations who requested the Vice-Chancellor to take quick steps for disbursing September month salary to all the staff and pension for retired staff.
“We did not get proper reply from the VC in our today’s meeting. So, we will meet him again tomorrow because unless the university authorities led by Vice-Chancellor briefs the Finance Department and Higher Education Department authorities in Chennai, how will they know that we have not got our last month’s salary. Everybody knows that the MKU is facing a huge financial crunch and crisis. In the last four months, somehow the salary payment was managed on date. Usually we get salary on the last day of the month. But, today is October 3rd and we are waiting for salary. It is time for the VC and Registrar to sit in Chennai and tell the State government about paucity of funds, and how the MKU is struggling is pay monthly salary and pension,” an association office-bearer who met the VC today told ‘Lotus Times’ English website on 3rd October 2023 evening.
