MADURAI: A massive dharna will take place at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi tomorrow- on September 13th 2023-in response to the nationwide call given by All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) and Joint Forum for Movement on Education (JFME), for a showdown in the national capital on various important issues related to higher education and teaching fratetnity.
The thrust of this Delhi Dharna on September 13th 2023 from 10.30 a.m. to 3 pm is to demand the union government to roll back National Education Policy NEP 2020, restore Old Pension Scheme, filling up of all vacant teaching and non-teaching posts from primary to university education level and allocation of 10 per cent GDP for education besides other issues.
Prof.Dr.Arun Kumar, general secretary of AIFUCTO and coordinator of JFME, has said in a press release issued today from Delhi that thousands of university and college teachers, representatives of students’ organisations, AIFRTE, AIFRUCTO, Save Education, FEDCUTA and all those who are committed to inclusive education will participate in the dharna in New Delhi tomorrow.
“Leaders of political parties have been invited to express their solidarity. A memorandum will be submitted to the President, Prime Minister and Union Education Minister. The Government of India, we feel, will realize the gravity of the situation and respond democratically to the collective wisdom of the nation failing which there will be a more vigorous national level movement to force the union government to save education, save campus and save nation,” AIFUCTO general secretary Prof.Dr.Arun Kumar has said in the press statement dated 12th September 2023.
